4.      I can classify earth materials by the way that they are used.

5.      I can make decisions about how earth materials can be used based on their properties.

·         Have students brainstorm a list of what they think are earth materials.  List all ideas with the title of Earth Materials?

·        Students make a Frayer Model for “Earth Materials.”

·        Each student observes one earth material and describes one earth material then shares their description with someone with the same material and revises description.  Make list of property words.

·        Working in groups, students sort earth materials in some way and record their groups.

·        Students write “rhyme for a rock,” a “sonnet for sand,” a “poem for soil,” or an “ode to water” using property words.
